WITHINGTON MANORWITHINGTON MANOR

Newsflash

Fiona and I have made the decision that we will be not be running this year’s event at Withington due to: ·         The cost of abandonment insurance, which has now passed onto Organisers, and in our case absorbs more than 80% of the increase of entry fees that have been agreed for 2022 ·         The new abandonment insurance does not cover any communicable diseases (Sars, Covid 19, EHV, Foot & Mouth etc) and thus if the event is cancelled on any of these grounds, the repayment of entry fees would have to come from us ·         The increase in costs that we are experiencing across all areas far exceed the remaining 20% left of the increase of entry fees that have been agreed for 2022   Being a “green field” site with all the infrastructure having to be bought in, as well as offering only higher level classes with their associated costs and revenue implications, we generate a small surplus most years which is invested back into the event for the next year but the risk of a loss of tens of thousands of pounds is neither bearable nor justifiable.   This decision is deeply disappointing for our small 3-man team that prepares the Estate for horse trials as they have already dedicated some time to this year’s preparations.   We also recognise that our decision will have an affect upon our loyal contractors, competitors, sponsors and volunteers without whom we are not in a position to present Withington in the best possible light year after year.  All have been flexible in their offers of help this year for which we are most grateful.  Hopefully by making this decision now this will allow sufficient time for some to make alternative arrangements.   We are looking forward to 2023 when, hopefully, we can once again deliver the competition to our usual standard.
