Berriewood Horse Trials - An event with a difference!

Berriewood Horse Trials Press Release

Often taking place across parkland and through the estates of stately homes, Berriewood Horse Trials at Condover in Shropshire is bringing something a little different to the British Eventing calendar as the first event to be run in and through a Solar Park.

The course will complement the areas producing green electricity as the major international solar power developers, Lightsource Renewable Energy Ltd, are sponsoring Berriewood for the second year and are responsible for the sensitive way in which the development has been put in place.

Preparations are well under way for the 24th running of the Horse Trials on 11th and 12th June and we are delighted to have over 450 entries including several International riders. With Polly Stockton, daughter of Sir Jonathan Clark, who was instrumental in getting the Berriewood Horse Trials going back in 1983, Rosie Thomas, Paul Sims and Carlos Paro (Brazil) all entered.

We are also excited to welcome Franky Reid-Warrilow to Berriewood, winner of the 2013 British Eventing Mark Todd ‘Bridging the Gap’ scholarship, which is awarded to up and coming riders who are showing promise at 2* level and looking to move up to or become more established at Advanced and 3* level.

Among local riders, Thomas Tulloch from Oswestry comes hot from winning the BE100u18 section at Llanymynech (1) this year and in 2015 Thomas led the Charles Owen British Pony Team to a gold medal at the FEI European Championships in Malmo on board Spirit VI.

Berriewood has helped many fledgling stars to get started in eventing over the years, and we are excited to host an Airowear BE80(T) section this year, which is a qualifier for The Blue Chip Central North West BE80(T) Challenge, which leads to a Final competition at Weston Park later in the year.

Horse nutrition specialists based near Whitchurch, Rowen Barbary, are supporting local up and coming rider Sarah Roberts-Tomkins, who will also be competing at Berriewood following an excellent start to the season which has seen Sarah winning at both Kelsall Hill (1) and Llanymynech (1).
