Pol Roger announced as Official Champagne of Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials

Champagne house Pol Roger has further cemented its support for elite British Eventing by announcing a three-year association with what is widely acknowledged to be the World’s most challenging 4* event, the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials.

The partnership was announced at a drinks reception, held at Bonhams’ auction house in central London last week (16th April 2015), which also showcased a bespoke Pol Roger, Land Rover Defender that has been customised to incorporate a mobile champagne bar.  The vehicle will be at Land Rover Burghley providing a taste of Pol Roger to visitors and competitors alike.

The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials takes place in Stamford, Lincolnshire each September, attracting more than 160,000 visitors over a four-day period.  Situated within the magnificent parkland of Burghley House, Land Rover Burghley is renowned not only as a major international televised sporting event, but also as the premier occasion in the autumn social calendar.

This year up to 80 elite horse and riders drawn from across the globe will be taking part, with many hoping to impress Olympic selectors in the run up to the 2016 Brazilian Games.

With Antipodeans dominating the leader board in 2014 and Andrew Nicholson’s unprecedented third successive Land Rover Burghley win on the popular grey gelding Avebury, the 2015 competition looks set to be as competitive as ever.

Elizabeth Inman, Event Director of the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials said: “We are delighted to welcome Pol Roger on board as our Official Champagne.

This renowned brand shares many of the same values that we espouse at the Horse Trials including quality, tradition and hospitality.  Winston Churchill, who is well documented as preferring Pol Roger above all other champagnes said:
"In victory, deserve it. In defeat, need it!" and I’m sure that’s an adage our competitors will be keen to adhere to this year!”

James Simpson MW, Managing Director of Pol Roger Portfolio added: “It is a great honour to be named the official champagne of the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials and further to consolidate our long standing relationship with Land Rover, and indeed the Three Day Eventing world. We look forward to seeing the top equestrian athletes competing for the prestigious title, as well as the Pol Roger Portfolio Defender and pop-up bar set up in the beautiful surrounds of the Burghley Parkland, a perfect setting to enjoy a glass or two of champagne!”
