Register A Horse

EVERY HORSE THAT COMPETES WITH BRITISH EVENTING NEEDS TO BE REGISTERED

If your horse has ever been registered with British Eventing before (with you or a previous owner) you do not need to complete a horse registration.

HOW TO REGISTER A HORSE

If your horse has never been registered before, log in to your BE account and navigate to 'Horses' by logging in to 'My Account' page and then clicking on  'Register New Horse' to complete the form and upload scans of the horses passport.

If your horse’s passport details are not uploaded via the online form, they must be sent into the office as soon as you complete an equine registration. The membership team will then verify your passport and you'll receive an email confirmation. You can either email a copy (info@britisheventing.com) or post a copy of the official name page (this must be the name recorded in the passport) stating the ID number and year foaled, the breeding page and the vet's diagram page. You have 28 days to do this before your horse is suspended and you will be unable to make any entries.

Foreign horses, including Irish, will need to send these details in straight away as they do not have the 28-day period. We also need a printout of the results from the country of origin if the horse is older than five years. You will not be able to make any entries until we have received this information. If you have an unnamed Irish passport, you need to send the passport back to Ireland in order to have the name inserted before we can accept the horse registration.

MY HORSE IS REGISTERED

If the horse has previously been registered with you as the owner you will need to log into your BE account, select 'Horses', and here you will find all the information in order to purchase Season Tickets/PAYG.

If they have been registered with a different owner, you will need to complete a change of ownership - see below for more information.

CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP

You need to complete a change of ownership form before the ownership of a horse can be changed on the database. When you know you are going to purchase the horse, it is best if you take this form with you when the sale is completed. Alternatively, you can navigate to the horse's record on our website and click 'Change of Ownership' - this will send an email to the previous owner to verify the change of ownership.

AGE

Horses can have a season ticket from five years of age. Four-year-old horses can only compete in BE80 and BE90 classes a maximum of four times in the season from 1 July of each year.

HORSE AND PONY MINIMUM HEIGHTS

The minimum height for registering a horse for eventing is 142cm without shoes. However, for BE80 and BE90 classes only, the minimum height that a pony can compete at is 132cm without shoes.

VACCINATIONS

Please log in to your account to see the BE Rules and Members' Handbook for full details on vaccinations.

REFUNDS

If your horse has competed less than three times in the season due to injury, then a partial refund can be applied for. You need to send in a copy of a relevant vet's bill or letter to info@britisheventing.com, and you must apply before 31 December of the year in which the season ticket was purchased. Please make sure that the vets letter includes the BE registered name of the horse, and not the stable name.

DOWNGRADING

A Horse is only eligible to be downgraded if it has not won any points in the previous 24 months from the date of application.

All applications to BE to downgrade a Horse must state the reasons for the application. BE must decline an application if satisfied that it is in the best interests of the Sport.

A Horse that has been downgraded loses any points it has accumulated and, becomes for all purposes Grade 4.

If the downgraded Horse wishes to move up the class ladder again, then it must fully re-qualify as per BE rules.

A Horse may only be downgraded once.

The name of a downgraded Horse cannot be changed.

Apply online for downgrade here.
