Pony Measuring

Pony Measuring

BE Pony Trials

These competitions include Pony Trials (PT).

To compete in BE Pony Trials a pony is to measure at 149.9cm WITH shoes. A pony does not need an official measuring certificate for national pony trials.

However it is highly recommended ponies gain an official FEI Pony Measurement. This can be obtained from an Official FEI Pony Measuring Day. To gain an official FEI measurement the pony must be measured by two FEI vets from a different country, which can only be organised at an official measuring day. (See below)

FEI Pony Trials (CCIP2*S/L)

ALL ponies competing in FEI Pony specific competitions will be required to have an FEI Measuring Certificate in order to be eligible to compete at FEI events, regardless of whether they have been competing without one up until this date as the FEI’s transition period is now over (Go to Pony Measuring System | FEI for more information on the transition period).

There are no exceptions.

To be able to be measured, the pony must have a current FEI registration at the date of the measuring. FEI registrations last from January through to December, a pony cannot be measured without a valid FEI registration.  For further information on FEI registration please go to International | British Eventing . If the pony has been registered with the FEI previously, you can check their measurement status on the FEI database: Horse Search (fei.org) . Search the pony and it will say in red writing if a measurement is needed.

A JMB measurement is not sufficient for an FEI competition.

FEI Pony Measuring Dates for 2025 Season

All ponies competing in an international pony classes must have a valid official FEI measurement, obtained at an official FEI measurement session (rule 2.9.3.3 BE Rule Book). There will be two opportunities for ponies to present for measuring in 2025 the dates are below.

  • Wednesday 15th January 2025
  • Thursday 20th March 2025

The booking form needs to be emailed to trainingcentre@britishshowjumping.co.uk. The cost of the measurement is £140.00.

If you are competing at BE105 or above on your pony, it is recommended that you get your pony FEI measured as there may not be another chance later in the season if you wish to move on to FEI competition.
