BECC (UKCC Endorsed)

Being UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) endorsed, the British Eventing Coaching Certificate (BECC) qualifications offer the highest quality of training for our valued coaches. These professional qualifications are all awarded by 1st4sport, an organisation that is recognised and regulated in England by Ofqual, who specialise in the active leisure, learning and well-being sector. 

What does the BECC involve;

British Eventing offer three levels of qualifications, level 2, level 3 and level 4 which is a post graduate diploma run through British Equestrian.  The level 2 and 3 are both eventing specific qualifications and are delivered by an experienced and knowledgeable workforce. Each course is assigned a Coach Educator who will deliver the content which is divided between theory and practical coaching sessions.

Level 2 – this guides you through how to be a basic, safe coach who can prepare for, deliver and review a progressive series of coaching sessions.  You will need to be currently coaching riders up to and including Novice level as this is the level you will be assessed at. You will need to spend a significant of your time working in the industry and have a proven record of coaching combinations up to and including novice level and have a successful competition record within BE. 

Criteria:

Prior to registration for the qualification learners are required to:

• Provide evidence, through application, showing they spend a significant amount of time within the industry;

• Proven record of coaching eventing combinations at entry level and up to and including Novice.

• Knowledge and understanding of BE’s pathways

• Proven record of successfully competed at Novice

• Observed and worked with a BE Coach over a period of 12 months

• Be accurately identified and a current member of BE

• Be at least 17 years of age at the time of application

• Evidence of English speaking, reading and writing.

Prior to certification, learners are required to:

• Be aged 18 years or older

• Have a valid and in date certificate for a recognised safeguarding training course. 

• Have a valid and in date certificate for a recognised first aid workshop.

• Achievement of the qualification is through attendance on a course of training and assessment.

The course consists of:

  • Four one day workshops approximately one month apart followed by a final assessment.
  • The workshops are a mixture of theory based sessions where the information needed for the portfolio will be covered, and practical coaching sessions where the coaching skills needed will be covered. Advice on the technical skills will also be given in the practical sessions, but we cannot make you technically competent in 4 sessions. Please make sure you read the requirements and ensure you are confident in the technical skills before applying.
  • You will also need to be prepared to work on your own between workshops. This includes completing the portfolio tasks and could include watching other coaches and making sure you get as much coaching practice as possible.

The assessment specification requires learners to:

  • Complete a series of assessed tasks contained within a learner portfolio, provided by 1st4sport.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate a minimum of six coaching sessions. 
  • Demonstrate your ability to coach three practical sessions.  They are split into one show jumping group session, one individual dressage session and one individual cross country session.

 The learner portfolio and the practical demonstrations are inclusive of all assessment criteria. Successful completion will result in the achievement of the qualification.

 LEVEL 2 - 2025 Courses

Day 3 - Wednesday 30 April

Day 4 - Thursday 29 May

Assessment Day - Wednesday 2 July

Level 3 – this helps coaches learn how to be a fully independent coach and can also mentor level 2 coaches.  It will enable you to plan, deliver and review annual training programmes for rider development.  You will need to be currently coaching combinations up to and including 2* level, as this is the level you will be assessed at. You need to spend the majority of your time working within the industry, have a proven record of coaching combinations up to and including 2* level and have a successful competition record within BE.

Criteria:

Prior to registration for the qualification learners are required to:

• Provide evidence, through application, showing they spend a majority of the time within the industry;

• Proven record of coaching eventing combinations at CCI2*

• Knowledge and understanding of BE’s pathways

• Proven record of successfully competed at CCI2*

• Assisted in the development and management of teams (Pony Club, Riding Club, etc)

• Observed and worked with a BE Coach over a period of 12 months

• Be accurately identified and a current member of BE

• Be at least 18 years of age

• Evidence of English speaking, reading and writing.

Prior to certification, learners are required to:

• Have a valid and in date certificate for a recognised safeguarding training course. 

• Have a valid and in date certificate for a recognised first aid workshop.

LEVEL 3 - 2025 Course

This course consists of:

  • Ten workshops followed by practical assessment day.
  • The workshops are a mixture of theory sessions where the information needed for the portfolio will be covered, and practical coaching sessions where the coaching skills needed will be covered. 
  • You will also need to be prepared to work on your own between workshops. This includes completing the portfolio tasks and could include watching other coaches and making sure you get as much coaching practice as possible.

The assessment specification requires learners to:

  • Complete a series of assessed tasks contained within their learner portfolio, provided by 1st4Sport
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate an aspect of a seasonal coaching programme covering a minimum of an 8-week period where a minimum of 8 sessions are planned, delivered and executed.
  • Demonstrate your ability to coach three practical sessions, these assessments will include individual dressage, show jumping and cross country lessons.
