The BE Regional Leagues, powered by Equiratings, provide a transparency of Youth Regional Rankings – not only enabling riders to chart their progress against their fellow competitors, but also providing a clear qualification route for the National Youth Championships.
The eight BE regions of Scotland, North, East Midlands, Wales and West Midlands, East, Central, South East and South West have their own leagues across each height category. The leagues reflect the Power Based Average (PBA) score of each combination.
How they work
Power Average: The PBA is calculated from the best three finishing scores of combination, achieved across any of the qualifying classes contested. Please NOTE British Eventing is reverting to the system used last year where results in any classes at the relevant level will count towards qualification for the Leagues. This does not include PC or GO BE classes. Two of the three counting scores are a combination's best two finishing scores from the current calendar year. The third qualifying score depends on where the first two were achieved. At least one counting score must be achieved within the member's designated region.
The calculation for the power average is made in this order:
- First, a combination's lowest two finishing scores from the current calendar year are found, regardless of the region.
- Identifying the third finishing score then depends on the region in which the lowest two 'calendar year' finishing scores were achieved in:
a) If at least one of these two finishing scores was achieved in the athlete's region, then the best finishing score from the qualification period (not already considered) will be used as the third qualifying finishing score. ◦
b) If neither of the two finishing scores were achieved in the athlete's region, the best finishing score in the qualification period that was in the athlete's region will be used.
The Top 10 eligible combinations in each height category, at the end of the qualification period, will be invited to represent their region at the National Youth Championships. Only one qualifying score must be within the rider’s own region, giving riders and their families greater flexibility in choosing event locations that suit them.
