Volunteering with British Eventing is a great way to stay connected to the sport. Whether you have existing skills that you can share with us, or would like to gain new ones while enjoying some of Britain's most beautiful countryside and meeting new people, British Eventing welcomes people of all ages and abilities to volunteer. If you can give a day, either weekend or weekday, British Eventing would love to hear from you!

Become a volunteer
To become a registered volunteer, you simply need to register with British Eventing. British Eventing is registered with the Data Protection Registrar and the information you give us is used for this one purpose only, which is to contact you directly for either information about British Eventing in general or for volunteering information.
Young Equestrian Leaders Award
The Young Equestrian Leaders Award recognises people who volunteer in equestrian sports. Whether you help at your local riding school, or give your name to a horsey charity such as the Riding for the Disabled Association, you can join the YELA Programme to get your volunteering officially recognised and rewarded by British Equestrian and Sport England.

Volunteer opportunities
There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available throughout the season at a range of venues across the country. These range from fence judging and dressage writing to score collecting and crossing stewarding. You will be provided with lunch and refreshments throughout the day as well as a huge thank you from the organising team. Each British Eventing Event which is recruiting or needs more event volunteers will add a newsflash to their BE Fixtures page and reach out via their own communication channels. If asked by the organising team, BE will repost such shout outs as well. Check events near you on our Fixtures list.
Competing and volunteering
British Eventing encourages competitors to help out at events. Volunteers and helpers are crucial to the running of our sport and without them events cannot take place. Competitors who volunteer at events have a clearer understanding of what happens behind the scenes and it is also worth knowing that this will go a long way with event organisers.
Derek Gooden Fund
Launched in memory of one of the sports most dedicated and experienced volunteers, the Derek Gooden Fund, supports BE fence judges with their travel to Olympic or World Championships hosted outside of Europe.
Following his death in 2016, BE Volunteer and Professional Adviser, Derek Gooden, generously dedicated a sum of his estate to British Eventing to set up a fund to assist fence judges with their overseas travel to events.
